Janet Tamez

Published Author

Janet Tamez is a poet, writer, and publishing advocate whose words have come alive on stages in Miami and New York City. Born and raised in Union City, New Jersey, she earned her B.A. in English from the University of Miami and recently added a Master's in Publishing from Pace University.

After a decade in the classroom, Janet made a bold career pivot in her 40s, channeling her passion for storytelling into the publishing world. Her graduate thesis examined diversity challenges in Christian and Catholic publishing, and she continues that work as a writer and editor for the Catholic Writers Guild, championing faith-based authors and inclusive narratives.

Today, Janet teaches creative writing to middle school students in south Florida, shaping the next generation of voices. She is also the 2025 recipient of FAPA's Student Award for Literary Excellence.

Her debut poetry collection, Wherever You Go, There You Are, reflects her signature wit and warmth. Janet's favorite word is "magenta," and she has never used the word "magpie" — until now.

She lives in south Florida with her husband, son, and Mexican hairless dog.
